If you are a Dietitian who works with human beings, you will inevitably be working alongside people who have experienced or are currently experiencing high levels of stress. Some of your clients will also have experienced trauma. It has traditionally been viewed that the role of the Dietitian is very separate to that of the therapist, but what we are now understanding if the significant intersection of nutrition-related concerns, eating behaviours and mental health are inextricably linked.

In this 4-part live online course, you’ll be introduced to foundations of trauma informed care and how it is fundamentally different to trauma-focussed therapy. This is a “working with” and “working alongside” people’s experiences which aims to build your awareness and confidence in supporting your clients who have experienced trauma and/or are experiencing high levels of stress.

  • What am I listening out for? Learn the language of common trauma-integrated tools ·

  • The power of slowing down and why it is critical for healing

FAQ’s:

Is this work within a Dietitians scope of practice?

Understanding our own systems and developing insight about our client’s safety systems is absolutely within our scope of practice. Trauma-informed work is not trauma-focussed work, which under typical circumstances is usually done with a therapist. Understanding how we can create safer spaces for our clients can greatly enhance the Dietetic work we are undertaking together

Will this series be recorded?

Yes, we will be recording all sessions. We recommend that whenever it’s possible to join us live, it greatly enhances your experience.

I already understand trauma and the foundations of the nervous system – is this course for me or are there other options?

This course might be a repeat for you – but if that’s what you’re looking for, then great! If you’re looking to take your practice further, then Tracy’s Somatic Nutrition Counseling Skills course at https://embodieddietitian.com/advanced-counseling-skills/ might be just right for you.

If you are looking for a consistent, come and go as you please monthly supervision group that discusses the intersection of trauma/attachment and food interventions, https://embodieddietitian.com/product/online-group-coaching/ can provide the connection you need to not feel alone in this work on an on-going basis.
